Real Ingredients Matter

We make tea-based beverages with 100% real ingredients. Never natural flavors (which you might or might not know, can come from the butts of beavers). We are obsessed and continue to obsess about doing it differently. We are unlike any other tea, hard seltzer, or just plain beverage brand in the world. Because we think the world deserves better.

As tea experts, we knew that naturally flavored beverages didn’t look right or taste right. How could a beverage with actual raspberries, for example, be clear? Or why do naturally flavored drinks seem to have a chemical

aftertaste?

We felt something was definitely amiss so we did a little

digging and now we’re calling bulls**t.

Keep reading to learn more about what we’ve discovered.

So what is a "Natural Flavor?"

The FDA defines them as…

“Deriving flavor from “a spice, fruit or fruit juice, vegetable or vegetable juice, edible years, herb, bark, bud, root, leaf or similar plant material, meat, seafood, poultry eggs, dairy products or fermentation products thereof, whose significant function in food is flavoring rather than nutritional.”

What wise people are saying…

•    “Flavor manufacturers do not have to disclose their ingredients. They can add synthetic solvents, preservatives, emulsifiers, carriers and other additives to flavor that qualifies as natural under current regulations.” NY Times.

•    “’Natural flavor’ is an umbrella term used to describe a chemical that was originally found in a naturally occurring source.” Business Insider

•    “Raspberry or vanilla flavor is often made from the anal glands of beavers. Boiled beetles are used in beverages to make that “pink” color.” Organics.org

•    “There could be as many as 100 chemicals in a single natural flavor.” Foodrevolution.org

And let us reiterate… the FDA says the function of “Natural Flavors” is flavor, not nutrition.
